About The Owners
Two longtime friends sat down to lunch one day and came across a business that was for sale. After weeks of research on the neighborhood, and conversations with many people in different professions we decided that we’re not getting any younger and decided to buy the bar!
We are thrilled to provide the Foster-Powell and South Tabor neighborhoods with a cozy “home-away-from-home” atmosphere. We look forward to serving our unique, yet recognizable, house smoked meat sandwich melts, burgers, unique appetizers, specialty cocktails, and local beers.
About the Chef
Our Chef, Doug Seilhan, grew up in a Navy household and moved around a lot. However, he mostly stayed in the South. He started working in an oil field where his leg got snapped in half, and his recovery was lengthy. That was then he decided to switch careers.
In a little town in Louisiana, the Bull Dog Cafe had an opening for a breakfast cook. He realized he had a passion for food and loved serving customers something they would remember. One day he received a call from a friend who’s father wanted to open up a fine dining cajun restaurant. He took the head chef job, and built the menu around his great grandma’s cooking.
After 10 years in the South he decided to move to a city that takes pride in their food, and that he could learn many different avenues of cooking. So, he moved to Portland, OR! He was immediately hired at the Ringside Fish House and stayed there for many years.
We came across Doug through the pool (billiards) world where I had a conversation with him about opening up a “high-end” dive bar with great food for the blue collar neighborhoods. 2 months later he started to build the menu based on my vision. “The Doug” has been a dream come true for any bar owner that wanted to provide good food at a fair price.
